We have two great opportunities for our students that are happening in the next 6-9 months. The first is the Los Angeles Urban Project - a six week intensive urban ministry internship during the summer. From CSULA, we will be sending out 2 students as summer missionaries to participate in this great ministry opportunity. The second thing taking place is the triennial Black student conference in Atlanta taking place in December. We are hoping to send a group of 12-18 students from CSULA to participate in this national conference.In order to enable all of these students to pursue this great opportunity, we have designed a scholarship process to help them raise some of the money they’ll need to cover the costs. Our total need for the two students participating in the Los Angeles Urban Project is $5,000, plus an additional $10,000 for those students going to Atlanta in December.

We are helping the students to begin saving for the Atlanta conference, as well as some other fundraising efforts. To this end, I would like to ask you about 2 partnership possibilities to enable these students to attend.

The first opportunity is a WORK DAY that we are planning for Saturday, April 16th and again Saturday, April 30th, both from 9am - 2pm. We are looking for 5-7 projects each day that need some work done around their home - painting, clearing rubbish, cleaning out a garage, any general yard work - who would be willing to contribute between $300 (or more) to $100. We would send 2-4 students (depending on the size of your project). If you are interested in this opportunity, we ask that you or someone in your home is able to supervise the work project, and that you’ve purchased any necessary tools, etc. before the project. Please reply by the Tuesday before the project if you are interested.

The second opportunity - for those that don’t have any work to sponsor - would be to make a contribution to directly to our Metro LA Scholarship Account for either the Los Angeles Urban Project or the Atlanta ‘05 Black student conference. People can mail a check to InterVarsity at PO Box 7895, Madison WI 53791-9703 or give on-line at www.intervarsity.org, go to “donate,” and follow the instructions for giving on-line. Be sure to designate the gift to Metro LA Scholarship Account so that it goes directly to these students.

This would be a great way to partner with us to empower these students through this conference. 100% of the contribution goes directly to their registration. Any amount extra that we raise would go towards future conference registrations.
