QUOTE - Prophets

“There are two ways of being a prophet. One is to tell the enslaved that they can be free. It is the difficult path of Moses. The second is to tell those who think they are free that they are in fact enslaved. This is the even more difficult path of Jesus.”

How true this is… it is in very simple terms a very good description of what Jesus wants us to realize about ourselves… and to think that he calls us to do likewise! That is a very difficult thing to do. At least the captive are looking for someway of relieving the pain of captivity. But, how do you help someone see the chains around their wrists and ankles… when they think they are soaring like eagles?

Awesome quote… and if I could expound I would say that the role of the prophet is not only to give hope to those who know they are under the yoke of slavery (i.e. sin, idolatry, and oppression), and open the eyes of others to the fact that they too are enslaved; but also to be an instrument of God’s salvation or liberation. Moses lead Israel out of Egypt and Jesus lead his people out of a world of death and injustice into a new creation of life and righteousness.
