Drugged Generation

Anthony Bradley has a thought-provoking post on the drugging of the current millenial generation. But not from street drugs like weed, but from anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medicines:
“To cope with the failings of middle-class life parents drugged their children to deal with family brokenness, depression, withdrawal, etc., Kitwana says [in his book - “Why White kids love Hip-Hop”]:”The number of children being treated with psychiatric drugs tripled between 1987 and 1996″. “In 1990, 900,000 children were using Ritalin and by 2000 that number was up to 5 million.”
Astounding. Read the whole post for his full thoughts.

There’s an Op-Ed piece is yesterday’s LA Times that says that 1 in 6 Americans takes 3 or more prescription drugs per day. Wow.
