Taco trucks, blogs & fines
Taco trucks are a reason to love LA. They may not carry the notariety that the Hollywood sign, Disneyland, or the beaches get, but if you really want to love LA, you’ve got to discover a few of the good taco trucks out there.
What I didn’t realize, however,.. was how the street level love of taco trucks had entered the blog-o-sphere. My brother emailed me today about a city ordinance targeted against taco trucks - and what stood out to me first was that the link was for a blog URL of tacohunt.blogspot.com. How cool is that.
Anway, to close the loop, their is a city ordinance increasing the fines for taco trucks that don’t move locations often enough. How ridiculous is that? How are you supposed to build up a reliable client base? I could understand if there were particular taco trucks that were parking in particular areas… but anyway. If you are as “outraged” (you know what I mean) by this as I am, you can actually sign a petition online to respond to this proposed city ordinance. The petition states:
To: Los Angeles City Council
As residents of Los Angeles who care about the quality of life in our city, we respectfully ask the City of Los Angeles to consider our point of view regarding the recently passed ordinance regarding catering trucks.
We understand the city’s need to regulate the streets and public areas, but have not seen any evidence that taco trucks and other catering trucks do anything other then feed the hungry multitudes who depend on their low prices, high quality foodstuffs, and reliable service.
Taco trucks bring food to areas where there are no restaurants, serving people who are unable to leave their work or home for various reasons. They provide low-cost meals to all without predjudice. They are dependable and many stay in the same spots every day or night, doing a public duty as well as providing incomes for thousands of drivers, cooks, and small business people.
Taco trucks cut down on traffic as hungry workers do not need to drive to get food, saving time and money for their employers. The savings in pollution and traffic alone ought to be enough to overturn this wrong-headed ordinance.
Taco Trucks are an important part of the City of Los Angeles, and this ordinance needs to be repealed right away!
Sincerely,
I never that tacos would become part of a political action. Never figured I’d be so into taco trucks either.

Finally,
Something I can fight for. But seriously, am I alone in thinking that Leo’s Tacos in Eagle is just amazing. I gained 15 pounds my senior year from Leo’s. Looking back, I don’t regret a thing.

Cameron - you are not alone in your love for Leo’s Tacos. On their website http://www.leostacos.com they have a movie which was done by an Oxy film major which documents a night at Leo’s.

I definitely support the taco trucks. For the record, my favorite taco truck is from El Taquito Mexicano in Pasadena, and you can find it every night on Fair Oaks between Del Mar and California, in the Mishikawa Auto parking lot. What are your favorite spots, Scott?

You know you live in L.A. when your favourite restaurant is on four wheels. We have one 75 feet from our front door, sells only seafood, and my wife loves it. And whatever makes la esposa happy makes the Hull household happy.
