My 2nd calling - Blues Harmonica
That that I’ll be opening for any big bands anytime soon. But I took a class last night on “Beginning Blues Harmonica” at Pasadena City College. For a 3-hour, one-time class, it was a lot better than I thought it would be. The instructor was a pretty good harmonica player… and a pretty good instructor, which was probably more important.
Learned the “Bo Didley” rhythm, the “I’m a Man” riff, how to tongue slap for percussion, cupping for bass & treble variation, how to “chug” and “slap” and “spit” and make the harmonica wail and “wahwah.” Not that I can do any of those all together or with any proficiency. But it was a beginning.
Now I’m going to practice so that I can make the cut in my friend Nate Young’s next band. He is a rocker of international audience, who’ll be opening for U2 any day now…
