Championship Sunday - 2pm
I have to confess, I’ve been a little giddy this past week.
Winning, apparently, does that. And since this is my “I’ve - never - been - in - or - won - in - any - playoffs” experience, it has been a lot of fun.
Here is how we got here. We won our division at 8-2. We actually tied for first place, and were declared champions by the points differential in the games played with the team we tied. All that’s to say that we got the higher seed for the playoffs… and a cool shirt that says “champions.”

That sent us to this past Sunday’s game versus ‘Ole Vikings (7-2), the 2nd place finisher in the Sunday B Division. The really put the old into “‘Ole“, since their youngest player was 45. Don’t be decieved, though, because these cats could play. In a close game, we won by 6 or 7 points at the end.
All of which leads us to the championship game this Sunday at 2pm at Blair High School in Pasadena. We play a team called 6 Feet Under (9-1), a nefarious inference that the bury their opponents. Considering that they outscored their regular season opponents 68-49, they’ve at least earned the right to defend their name. We only gave up 46 points a game so I think it should be fun to watch.
First place finishers in the Wednesday B Division, they beat the Underdogs (7-3) - 2nd place from the Wednesday A Division, then Pasadena (7-2) 3rd place from the Sunday B Division, then finally And Won (7-3) - 2nd place from the Tuesday A Division. We saw them play on Sunday versus And Won. It was a close game. They are tall and athletic and like to shoot from outside & do a lot of one-on-one dribble penetration. But they also gave up a lot of easy layups and gave the other team a lot of chances to win at the end. We’ll see how it goes. We play pretty good defense as a team, and usually cause a lot of turnovers, so I think we’ll match up pretty well with them.
Since my on-court contributions are… shall we say… limited … to rebounding, some defense & missing a few free throws, I’m hoping that my off-court contributions of an enormous fan base will make the difference. So… “give me an “R” …give me a “P” …,” paint your faces green and white, and come help us go after our 15 minutes (or two 20 minute halves) of fame.

I am fired up for you Scotty! Wish I could be there, but will be in Mammoth for a retreat. My only advice is this: don’t eat anything that could give you runs 1 minute before tip-off!

Well, seeing that you’ve never played on a Truthseeker IM team, I understand your unfamiliarity with championship fever. Hopefully, you’ll be able to redeem your reputation as an imposing shot blocker, if not a woeful freethrow shooter, during your tournament.
