Not that I’m all that “green” or environmentally-conscious, but every Tuesday I’ve been taking the bus to campus for lunch with one of my guys and then our men’s Bible study. Other than my 1-week - public - transportation - for - jury - duty experiment, I’ve never riden the bus for any regular commute before. (Apparently, I’m not alone) So far, this is what I’ve seen:
–The sky is beautiful - I know that LA is more well-known for our smoggy air, but the weather this past month has created some gorgeous clouds in the sky. Plus, every time I’ve gotten off at the USC/LAC Hospital stop in the late afternoon, there has been an incredible sky over downtown LA. I don’t have time to look up in the sky so much while I’m driving.
–Life in LA moves too fast - The 20 minutes of walking I do on either end of the actually bus ride is problably the only real slow-down time I have all week. And considering the thousands of cars parked on the 10 East at 4:30 while I walk home, I’m probably getting 19-minutes more slow-down time than the rest of Los Angeles.
–Walking & Bus = Driving & Parking - Its not much more time - door to door - to walk to the busline, which goes straight through to CSULA without any other stops, than to hop in my car, drive 3 exits on the freeway, and then find parking mid-day on campus. Plus, at $2.50 for the roundtrip, I’m probably saving a buck or two.
