Stories, thoughts & insights on Jesus, college students, and the Bible; Los Angeles, immigration, politics, ethnicity and culture, and also about my daughter Isabel - from a spanglish gringo father living in, learning from, leading & loving life in East L.A.

I live in Imperial Beach, which is like 2 miles from the border. Here, teachers are being cast aside like fodder...actually, entire schools are being closed due to this funding / mismanagement crisis. In fact, my sons' school (the top performing school in the district) is being closed. Yes, the top performing school.

The bottom line, is that they feel they have to in order to maintain a sinking ship by keeping underperforming schools exactly as they are. This is so frustrating. In the meantime your kids and mine continue to go without an education that has the potential for so much more.

From this far south, prayer is our only answer. It really is that bad here.
