About
I’m a spanglish gringo who loves Jesus, loves the Bible - and teaching it - and loves students, especially Cal State Los Angeles students. I work with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF/USA) in two capacities. Locally, I serve as the team leader for the ministry of InterVarsity “DEEP” at Cal. State Los Angeles (CSULA). Secondly, I work with InterVarsity’s Latino Fellowship (aka. “La Fe”), directing “La Fe” here in Los Angeles, as well as serving as a member of the National La Fe Servant Leadership Team, under the direction of Orlando Crespo, InterVarsity’s La Fe Director.
I’ve been living in Boyle Heights with my wife, Veronica, since July 2000. Recently, we adopted our first child, Isabel Susanna Torres McLane, who was born in November 2005. We are members of La Vina en Los Angeles, a Spanish-speaking congregation of primarily 1st generation immigrants from Central America & Mexico, under the leadership of Pastors Cesar & Edel Lopez. We preach there together on the first Sunday of each month, and are supported by them, as well as other churches, as missionaries to the college campus.
This blog represents my stories, thoughts & insights on Jesus, college students, and the Bible; plus Los Angeles, immigration, politics, ethnicity and culture, from a spanglish gringo living in, learning from, leading & loving being in East L.A.
